What are Dental Implants?

Dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium – a small screw that is screwed into the jaw and a new permanent artificial tooth (ceramic crown or bridge) is attached to it.

There are many ways to restore missing teeth, but only implants allow you to restore the entire tooth – both the root and the crown. They support an artificial tooth crown or bridge as the root holds a tooth in its place. Dental implants help restore missing teeth without grinding and without burdening the adjacent teeth. They can be used for single, multiple or all missing teeth restoration and permanent dental prosthesis. New teeth on implants look and function almost as natural.

The inventor of modern titanic dental implants is the Swedish scientist Professor Per-Ingvar Branemark, who discovered in 1952 that titanium – a very strong and lightweight metal – embedded in a natural bone can serve as a basis for changing natural teeth to artificial. The human body, usually rejecting any foreign bodies, accepts Titan and easily “adapts” it to the jaw. This phenomenon was called “osseointegration”, i.a. “the formation of a direct interface between an implant and bone”. Professor P.-I. Branemark screwed the titanic implants into the first global patient in 1965 and they have served until the end of the patient`s life.

Are all dental implants the same?

Dental implants differ in quality, reliability, durability, implantation techniques that vary greatly in terms of time and physical and emotional comfort. The progress and success of dental implantation depends, first and foremost, on the professionalism of the dentist and on the implants used and the treatment options they provide.

One of the key indicators defining the quality of implants is the guarantees provided by their manufacturer. Depending on the company, the warranty period for qualitative dental implants can vary from 10 years to more. Nobel Biocare provides a lifetime guarantee for dental implants it produces. Unique dental implant techniques can be used with dental implants manufactured by the company. Due to the simplicity of the implantation procedure, there are practically no age and health limitations (note – dental implantation is not recommended for individuals under 18 years old). No need to be without teeth for one day – usually a temporary tooth is fixed immediately after implantation, which is replaced by a permanent one few months later.
