Periodontology

Periodontology is a treatment of periodontal disease. Soft and hard plaque (dental stones), formed on the teeth, are rich in microorganisms. Microorganisms cause inflammation of the gums (gingivitis), which then passes to periodontitis – the bone melting around the teeth. This may be due to several reasons:

  • Lack of individual oral hygiene skills;
  • Inappropriate diet;
  • Irregular visit to the dentist;
  • Experiencing frequent or everyday stress;
  • Smoking, excessive alcohol consumption.

The loss of bone is painless until the teeth are finally lost. Therefore, it is very important to contact your dentist in time if you notice that:

  • Your gums have changed color;
  • Gums are swollen and red;
  • Gums bleed, especially when brushing teeth;
  • An unpleasant smell from the mouth;
  • Teeth sensitivity to changes in food temperature.

Treatment starts with professional oral hygiene (i.e., brushing soft and hard dental plaque), and if the disease is advanced, periodontological procedures are needed, which are performed in our Center by laser or piezotome.
